Monday 4th March - walks **** – Felixstowe Ferry and Nacton foreshore – sunny, frosty and still, clouding over later.

Walk 1.

I decided to get up early and head out to see the sunrise, with light winds and mist forcast I headed down to Felixstowe Ferry but not before I had to get the ice from the windscreen! I stopped at the end of the road to take a pic of the moon over the pier with the sea like a millpool. Parking by the Ferry Boat pub there was a good coating of frost as I made my way to the jetty with the sun still behind a bank of cloud but there was a little mist up the Deben so walked along the forshore with the tide dropping and not a ribble on the water making it ideal for reflections and got some nice pics with a hint of frost about too. I then walked back to the Martello Tower as the sun made it above the cloud before returning back to the boatyard with the Deben looking wondering with the sun now on it:) I then walked back towards the Martello Tower which was reflected in the river with the golf Martello shrouded in fog, just lovely. I stopped off at The Fludyers to take a couple more pics in wall to wall sunshine for breakfast and exercises.

Walk 2.

Was not sure what to do today but it was too nice a day not to head out so I packed a picnic and we set off in the van ending up at Nacton Shore. We parked at the end of the lane, donned our wellies as all footpaths in Suffolk are mud baths at the moment! Walking down through the small wood with the snowdrops still in bloom, reaching the banks of the River Orwell with the tide very low. We turned right and started off along the forshore but had to give up as it was hard to get around the fallen trees and deep mud, so scrambled up the bank to get to the footpath which was incredibly muddy and it was slow going, I did nearly fall a couple of times, very nearly catching my face on the barbed wire fence, I was lucky not to rip my face! Out of the woods we follow the beach over the small stream and thatched cottage and find a spot sheltered from the breeze to enjoy our lunch watching a few birds, turn stones, oyster catchers, teal and shell ducks. Well rested we then take the muddy footpath back to the small wood leading to our van and a muntjac walks straight into us, sadly I did not manage to get a pic. Then home via Levington seeing the deer again, what a top day :)
